Book Review – Deal with the Demon Lord

I am finding more and more that I like the genre where humans have almost gone extinct, and other species have taken over.  Honestly this should also concern me more than it does seeing as I am a human and not another species.  Kacey Lee wrote the book Deal with the Demon Lord, and as I am sure you could guess, this is another story about humans having gone extinct.

As I read this book, I kept wondering the same thing again and again, and I really wish the author had taken the time to explain it more.  And the thing I was wondering about was how are these supernatural beings that need human blood surviving without it.  As humans have gone extinct and don’t exist anymore, what is happening?  Can they survive on any blood?  Do they exist but are always suffering?  In addition, I am also kind of disappointed that Kacey mentioned some other supernatural beings, but we never got to see them.  I almost wish they hadn’t been mentioned so that I wasn’t so curious about them.

I really did enjoy this book though.  I loved that Serena was a badass woman who was determined to clear her name, and was willing to do anything to do so.  She had been alone since she was twelve years old, and doesn’t remember anything of her past.  As I read the book I had all kinds of hopes and ideas of what it was she truly was, and while I won’t spoil what she ultimately is, I will say it did leave me a bit disappointed.

I think the one thing I truly hated about this book, and the one thing I think Kacey Lee needs to apologize for, is the cliff hanger this book is left on.  While I can read (obviously) and I saw that the full title of this book is Deal with the Demon Lord: Demon Pact Book 1 (The Demon Pact Series), I didn’t actually expect it to end on a cliffhanger!  I hate cliff hangers and I want to know what happens next immediately.  So, I will be over here waiting for my apology Kacey!

Overall – This was a good book and it is an excellent addition to the “humans have all died and now there are other species” genre (on a side note…. Does this genre actually have a name?).  I am interested to see what happens next now that Serena’s big secret has been revealed and I do wonder if she will die, whether by accident or on purpose.
