Dark Obsessions by Lexi C Foss is the perfect story to demonstrate that sometimes your obsessions leads to you getting your back blown out, sometimes it leads you to running naked in the forest, and sometimes it leads to both scenarios.
Vivi, our heroine, has been obsessed with vampires her entire life and is convinced that they are real. Not only is she convinced they are real, she is determined to find them and prove it to the world.
One of my favorite things about this book is Gaby. Gaby is Vivi’s best friend, and when Vivi tells her about what she is planning to do, Gaby does not try to stop her. No, Gaby tells her essentially, I hope you have the best sex of your life, give me all the details when you come back. We love friends that are just as delusional as us.
That being said, maybe one of them should have thought with their upstairs brain because after being in Romania for no time at all, a stranger offers to be Vivi’s tour guide and she says yes with absolutely no references requested. If she was not the main character of our story, she would be a dead character in our story.
Once Vivi discovers that vampires are in fact real, the first thing she does is cry about it, which I completely understand. This thing you have been obsessing over, being called crazy over, actually exists! What a relief that must have been to her. And how funny it was to read that scene, knowing that the vampire, the King of the Strigoi, is trying to terrify her and it is not working with how relieved she is.
Vivi’s relief is quickly pushed to the side and within an hour of meeting Ciprian, Vivi orgasms twice, is told she is his mate, that he is keeping her, and that he wants to breed her. This woman just wanted to know vampires existed. Props to her and her dedication to research!
Then, once everything calms down and Vivi finally gets to eat a meal and process everything, she learns she must now compete in the Strigoi trials to prove she is a worthy mate for Ciprian, because by the way he is a monarch that has been searching for his mate for a thousand years.
Once again, all this woman wanted to do was prove vampires existed. Now she is running naked through the woods, desperately trying to pass these trials. All I have to say is, Ciprian better be on his knees for the next thousand years making this up to her!
Overall – This was a fun little book and I greatly enjoyed reading it. I personally found it be funny and interesting and would highly recommend it to someone wanting a short, dark, monster romance.
