I love the vast difference between opening lines of books. They are different between all genres, but are all designed to captivate and intrigue you. House of Lies and Sorrow by Emily Blackwood has one of the best opening lines I have ever read!
“How do you think he’ll kill you?”
This was a very quick book to read, but with it being quick it did not skimp on details and conflict. I greatly enjoyed the clash between the fae and humans, and I love how they interact with each other.
There are not many books that get me with a twist ending, but this book really and truly did. When I got to the ending I was shocked. Shocked and a smidgen disappointed with how some of the characters developed. SPOILER ALERT! I loved that Emily had Malachi’s mother be alive. We spent the entire book wondering about her and being intrigued by her, and then suddenly, poof there she is. But I kind of hated how mean and cruel the brothers were the entire time, only for them to end up having worked with the mom.
I will say, I understand this is an enemies to lover’s book, and that takes time to build, but I wish it ahd not taken the entire book for it to happen. I wish they had come together sooner.
I will say, with my few complaints about this book, I really love how the author wrote interesting plots that I really want to see wrapped up in book two. It absolutely keeps you reading and with series this is not always the case.
Overall – this was a quick and easy read with a romance to lovers theme that also covered a human VS fae world. I really enjoyed it and am excited to read book two. If this is something you are interested in, or if you like quick easy romance books, I recommend it.
